How To Feed Your Puppy

As your puppy grows and matures, their meal times change too. We’ve pulled together our top tips and
guidance for feeding times and transitioning onto adult food.

Remember, each puppy is different and the amount you feed will depend
on many factors such as their breed and how much play time your puppy enjoys.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I FEED MY PUPPY?

Puppies have little tummies but big appetites so a feeding routine should be little and often.

We recommend three meals a day for the first six months of life and two meals a day from six months of age until your puppy is old enough to transition onto adult food.

Feeding should happen at regular times of the day, and it should be accompanied with fresh, room-temperature drinking water which is available to your puppy at all times.

Uneaten wet food should be removed and thrown away after 30 minutes and their food bowl should be cleaned thoroughly ready for their next nourishing meal.

CAN I FEED WET AND DRY FOOD?

It’s perfectly fine to feed complimentary wet and dry puppy food, as long as both contain the essential nutrients your puppy needs, also known as being a ‘complete’ food – just like our Puppy Perfect recipes!

Be careful not to overfeed, not only at meal times but table scraps, treats and unlimited food can lead to obesity, which can result in irreversible changes to the skeleton and health problems in adult life. Overall your puppy’s specific food provides everything they need.

WHEN IS MY PUPPY READY FOR ADULT FOOD?

Different breeds and sizes of dogs have different growth rates and so it varies as to when your puppy is classed as an adult.

The smaller the breed of dog the quicker they grow as a puppy. The larger the breed the longer. Check with your vet if unsure.

As a rule, once your puppy has reached 1 year of age they are ready to transition onto adult food. Just remember that when transitioning your puppy onto a new adult food, to do it gradually over a period of 7-10 days, slowly replacing the old food with the new, until you are feeding 100% of the new food.

We offer a wide range of nourishing food and treats for adult dogs.
