Our Superfans Naomi and Dottie had a go at making this fun homemade dog toy for Dottie to play with. Do you fancy having a go? It is super easy, but it makes for a super exciting toy for your furry friend!
Gather yourself a tennis ball (we’re sure you have plenty of those lying around!), an old t-shirt that you don’t mind cutting up to keep your dog entertained, some scissors and some ribbon.
Time to cut up your t-shirt, cut along the middle to get one big strip and then your big strip into two.
For the bits of the old shirt you don’t use, why not reuse, by using as dusters or anything else you can do to recycle? Take your two big strips and place them overlapping each other and into an ‘x’ shape, like shown below. Pop your tennis ball in the middle.
Wrap the fabric tightly around the tennis ball, leaving some fabric hanging down. Tie the ribbon tightly to fasten the tennis ball.
If you don’t have any spare ribbon, just cut an extra piece of fabric off your t-shirt to use instead. See below!
Take each of the pieces hanging down below the ribbon and cut into 3. It’s important to cut each bit into 3 as we are going to plait these! It doesn’t have to be really neat, as it won’t show when it is plaited.
Plait your loose ends, these are great for your furry friend to chew on! Tie a knot at the end of each of the plaits.
There you have your own homemade dog toy, it’s perfect for throwing or for letting your dog chew on. It’s perfect for puppies too, as the plaits are soft enough for them to chew on too.
